 This is considered a purely "restrictive" procedure meaning weight loss occurs by decreasing the amount of food a person can eat. The Lap-Band is a silicone based device completely encircles the upper portion of the stomach creating a small pouch. The pouch size may be adjusted after surgery by adding or removing saline through an access port under the skin. This allows your surgeon to provide more or less restriction according to your weight loss. This procedure is generally performed using a laparoscopic technique which most often results in a shorter recovery period.
